This greenhouse is a prototype developed within Cross Innovation Southern Sweden, combining social innovation with sustainable energy technology. Through smart solutions for heat storage, solar energy, and humidity regulation, it creates a space that fosters both cultivation and community.
The Community Greenhouse addresses two major needs shared by many smaller rural communities in Skåne/Blekinge.
Small-scale growers and communities need energy-efficient systems to grow food year-round without relying on fossil fuels or expensive heating solutions.
There is a need to create inclusive meeting spaces where residents, creators, and technicians can collaborate on sustainable development.
By combining art, technology, and social innovation, The Community Greenhouse has been developed as a testing ground for sustainable energy technology and community building.
The work has resulted in low-tech solutions such as:
The combination of these technologies makes the greenhouse unique as both a social and technological innovation platform.
