Lighthouse Kalaudioscope

Lighthouse is a collaborative project exploring the future of digital cultural experiences, with a focus on interactive and personalized live performances. Through new audio technology and Malmö Live as a testing ground, the project develops new formats, technical solutions, and business models in close collaboration between the arts, research, and industry.

The Future of Digital Cultural Experiences

The Need Behind It

How can we create the music experiences of the future—where more people can enjoy live performances, no matter where they are? How can digital technology enhance—rather than replace—the artistic expression?

Cultural institutions today face pressure to both reach new audiences and explore new ways of producing, sharing, and experiencing music. At the same time, resources and structures for collaboration with technology specialists, freelance creators, and researchers are often limited.

Lighthouse emerged from the need to find new ways for the music scene to become more accessible, interactive, and inclusive — and for sound, technology, and performing arts to come together in new forms. Malmö Live served as a physical and artistic testing ground where collaborations could take shape and ideas be tested in real life.

The Solution

Lighthouse is a collaborative project where music, sound design, and digital technology come together to explore new performing arts formats. Through practical prototypes, workshops, and analyses, the project has developed new ways of working and inspired further development.

Concrete results include:

  • A new sound prototype that can be used in digital and distributed formats — with high technical quality and artistic integrity.

  • A new network of sound engineers, composers, and creators in southern Sweden.

  • New UX-based methods for audience experiences — both in physical spaces and digitally.

  • New commissions for freelance sound and performing arts specialists.

  • Strengthened collaboration between cultural institutions, academia, and industry.
